Deluxe Weekend Retreat

Early Bird Discount of $35 expired on June 5.
Price includes:  ground transportation and ferry, accommodation for two nights, a trained guide, all meals. Bicycle rental not included.

Cycle the Goose, a picturesque trail, formerly a railway line, and ride through urban, rural and wilderness scenery on a 60 km journey from Victoria ferry to Sooke. The Galloping Goose Regional Trail was named for the gas-powered passenger car that carried mail and 30 passengers twice daily between Victoria and Sooke during the 1920s.

From Schwartz Bay we follow the Lockside trail, traveling past Bazan Bay and wondrous beach views.  We continue our way through farmland along flat fast terrain to reach Switch Bridge, near Victoria.  You can spot bald eagles, or turkey vultures floating on a thermal. You have time to watch a deer in the sword ferns.  The scenery flows by in slow motion. A quiet cove. A dark, hidden lake. Rocky outcrops split by twisted Garry Oak. From asphalt to rainforest to canyon… the Goose knows every landscape on Southern Vancouver Island. We cycle 30 km to Victoria and stay the night at the downtown/inner harbour area.

We ride along the back roads to Saanich. Then the trail slices through the urban setting of View Royal, Colwood and Langford. Yet in a delightful surprise, ferns, shrubs and rock outcrops shield you from much of the concrete. At Metchosin, the trail moves lazily past small farms surrounded by hills. Steep, rocky slopes march down to the trailside. Occasionally the Goose drops into a creek bed.  You can stop on the bridge and watch cool water flow over igneous rock.

We will spend the night at the Goose Trail Bed and Breakfast located in fabulous Cooper's Cove. Come and experience one of the best biking experiences in BC.

Very Challenging, Backpacking

Very Challenging, Hiking

August 25 to September 1

2 days travel, 7 or 8 days backpacking

$1,595 + GST double occupancy; single supplement: add$150/person; includes: all ground transportation and land transfers, ferry, park permits, hotel and camp accommodation for 7 nights, all meals, experienced guide

The “West Coast Trail” on Vancouver Island is a British Columbia wonder, is an internationally renowned 75 km (47 mile) historic backpacking route along sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, caves, sea arches, sea stacks and beaches that compose the stunning coastline of south western Vancouver Island. Our adventure will take us from Port Renfrew to Bamfield, guiding the hiker over the hardest section first.

Day 1
We begin the hike by boarding a ferry across the Gordon River. From Gordon River to Thrasher Cove the trail stays in the woods, well away from the beach, which is impassable because of cliffs. The hiking is mostly on flat group or gentle up and down terrain. As we near Trasher Cove the climbs are steeper, both up and down. At several points there are openings in the forest which give excellent views of Port San Juan and the distant Olympic Mountains in Washington. Overnight at Trasher Cove campsite km 70.

Day 2
The hike from Trasher Cover to 150 Yard Creek can be slow going. At low tide you can hike along the shore. It is slow and tedious travel amongst slippery, algae-covered boulders at first. A series of ladders lead down to Camper Creek. Overnight at Camper Bay km 62.

Day 3
Between Camper Bay and Sandstone Creek you have a choice of hiking either along the beach or on the trail. The beach route is easier to hike but is only passable when the tide is very low. We will hike along the sandstone shelf. The trail to Cullite Creek is easy and can be done quickly. The trail from Cullite to Logan goes through a large bog. We will hike along the boardwalk and descend ladders to Logan Creek. Overnight at Logan Creek beach km 56.

Day 4
Between Logan and Walbran creeks, you have a choice of the trail route and the beach route (only at low tides and when seas are calm). We continue our hike to Carmanah along the beach. Overnight at Carmanah km 46.

Day 5
The section from Carmanah to Klanawa is, in the opinion of many hikers the most scenic part of the trail. The terrain alternates between forest and coastline and we have several beach accesses. Overnight at Tsusiat Point (Hole in the Wall) km 27.

Day 6
We hike to Tsocowis mainly throught the forest with plenty of ocean views. Overnight at Tsocowis km 17.

Day 7
The trail is almost a road at this point and the day passes quickly. Sea lions can be seen on Flat Rocks. Overnight in Bamfield.

Day 8
Here we will catch the bus to Port Renfrew. It’s an amazing adventure.

The West Coast Trail adventure requires fitness, strength and stamina. Contact us
for details and upcoming INFO SESSIONS
and bootcamp training.
